From Fear to Freedom: How Freediving Changed My Life and Reconnected Me with Myself

Today, I want to share a story—a story of personal transformation and the discovery of a passion that's truly changed my life. It's about how I stumbled upon freediving and found a whole new world beneath the waves.


Picture yourself in a state of blissful weightlessness, descending effortlessly into the depths of the ocean—a sensation akin to freefalling through a boundless expanse of liquid blue. It's a moment of pure exhilaration and profound connection, where time seems to stand still, and the mysteries of the deep beckon you to explore. This is the enchantment of freediving, a journey that promises not only adventure but also a profound transformation of the self.



This was me descending in a freediving competition.



A few years back, I was feeling lost and burnt out. I needed something to reconnect me with myself and the world around me. That's when I decided to try ayahuasca—a natural brew known for its introspective effects. It opened my eyes to new possibilities, but it was freediving that really took me by surprise.


While on vacation in Crete, I saw a woman effortlessly gliding through the water, capturing the beauty of the ocean. I was mesmerized. Little did I know, that chance encounter would lead me to discover freediving—a sport that would become so much more than just a hobby.


Freediving helped me overcome my fear of water and tap into my innate connection with nature. It wasn't easy at first, but with each dive, I grew more comfortable and confident in the water. It taught me to embrace the unknown and step out of my comfort zone—a lesson that's stayed with me both in and out of the water.


Learning to freedive wasn't just about swimming deeper or holding my breath longer. It was about mastering new skills, like equalization and mind-body connection. It challenged me in ways I never imagined, both physically and mentally, but it also showed me what I was capable of.


Breathwork alongside exercise, meditation, and yoga became an integral part of my holistic well-being journey. Freediving taught me to listen to my body, to trust myself, and to find peace in the present moment. In the water, I found healing for both my body and soul.


Through the calming embrace of the ocean, I found solace during my burnout recovery. It was a place where I could escape the chaos of everyday life and reconnect with myself. Freediving became more than just a sport—it became a sanctuary, a place where I could go deeper, not only into the water but into my own soul.
